Octavia Rainey

Octavia Rainey is a journalist and community advocate, a 1978 graduate of St. Augustine’s University and a lifelong resident of Raleigh. A columnist for The Carolinian, an African American community newspaper founded in 1939, and a radio talk show host on 750 AM WAUG, Rainey has reported on many issues of racial and economic inequality, often in collaboration with New America Media. She has also been a civil rights advocate for more than 30 years, advocating on housing, election law reform, environmental justice, stopping gun violence, and supporting the rights of children in foster care.
